There have been reports of the 6V-8225 Nuts that hold the 102-6770 Cover Assembly and the 102-6780 Shield Assembly together loosening. The shield and cover act as an oil baffle for the transmission output gear. The nuts could loosen completely and drop into the transmission sump where they will be caught by either the magnetic screen or the magnetic drain plug.Solution:
A solution for the nut loosening is being investigated and will be announced later. An inspection of the magnetic screen and drain plug should be made and if any 6V8225 Nuts are found, the following procedure can be used to make repairs without removing the transmission.1.Remove the drive shaft from the parking brake end of the transmission.2.Remove the following items from the output transfer gear group: bolt & retainer thathold the output yoke, output yoke & brake drum, and brake group and bearing cage.3.Once all the above items are removed, access is gained to the studs on the shield assembly. Clean the studs and apply a small amount of 4C3030 Thread Lock. Install six new 6V8225 Nuts and tighten them to a torque of 9 1 N M (80 9 lb in)4.
