The problem that is identified in the technical information bulletin that follows does not have a known permanent solution. Until a permanent solution is known, use the solution that is identified below.Problem
Reports have been received from the field of problems with the 243-1872 Fan Drive Gp that is part of the 258-0810 Fan Drive Gp . The 243-1872 Fan Drive Gp has not engaged at a slow, acceptable speed. This has caused the fan drive V-belt to squeal and to stretch. The main shaft in the fan drive has broken and the sleeve bearings for the main shaft have failed. Springs have also failed.If oil is leaking from the 243-1872 Fan Drive Gp , inspect the fan drive group. Inspect the main shaft in the fan drive. Make sure that the shaft is not broken. If the shaft is broken, you will need to replace the fan drive group. Inspect the sleeve bearings. If the sleeve bearings are worn, you will need to replace the fan drive group. If the shaft is good and the sleeve bearings are good, replace the seals in the fan drive group. Order the 188-3548 Seal Kit for the 243-1872 Fan Drive Gp .If the 125-5071 Spring is broken, replace the spring with the 7N-5959 Spring from the 777D Off-Highway Truck.The problems have been reported on machines S/N:JRP281-652.Solution
By using the electronic technician software, disable the variable speed capability of the fan control. Perform the following procedure on all machines.
By using the electronic technician software, go to the "Service" heading. Select the "Configuration" option.
Go to the heading for "Engine Configuration Parameters".

Select the "Engine Fan Control". Then select the "Change" option. Select the OFF option. Answer yes to the question about changing this parameter. The OFF option will allow the fan to run continuously with the engine.
