Hot oil and hot components can cause personal injury. Do not allow hot oil or hot components to contact the skin.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

(B) Drain plug Note: The breather and filler cap (1) will be mounted from the top of the transmission. Contact your Cat dealer for the appropriate instructions for adding hydraulic oil to the transmission.
Remove breather and filler cap (1) in order to prevent a vacuum while the oil is draining from the transmission case.
Remove drain plug (B) from the bottom of the transmission. Allow the oil to drain into a suitable container.
After the oil has drained from the transmission case, clean drain plug (B) and install the drain plug.

Remove four bolts (3) and washers in order to remove cover (2).
Remove cover (2), wave washer (4), suction screen (5), and magnetic tube assembly (6). Note: Some additional oil may drain from the torque converter housing when cover (2) is removed. Ensure that a suitable container is in place in order to capture any oil that may drain from the torque converter housing.
Inspect suction screen (5) and the magnets of magnetic tube assembly (6) for large particles of debris. An excessive amount of debris may be an indication of possible failure. Also, oil contamination may require you to change the transmission oil. If large particles are found, consult your Caterpillar dealer for further analysis and additional guidance.
Do not drop or rap the magnets against any hard objects. Replace any damaged magnets.
Wash suction screen (5) and magnetic tube assembly (6) in clean, nonflammable solvent. Clean the magnets with a cloth, a stiff bristle brush or air pressure.
Install magnetic tube assembly (6), screen (5) and wave washer (4).

Inspect seal (7) in cover (2). If the seal is damaged, replace the seal.
Install cover (2) with four bolts (3) and washers.
Fill the transmission case with oil. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Lubricant Viscosities" and Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Capacities (Refill)".
Ensure that the transmission is in the NEUTRAL position. Crank the engine for 15 seconds. Do not allow the engine to start.
Check the oil level with sight gauge (A) on the side of the transmission case. Repeat Step 11 through Step 12 until the oil level is between the "ADD" mark
