Problem
A minor interference has been identified when the conveyor bar is attached to the lug of the conveyor chain. When the problem exists, the chain can bind and will not lay flat. Caterpillar is aware of the problem and is making the necessary changes to prevent an interference between these parts.The following conveyor chain part numbers are potentially affected:

Inspect the installation of the conveyor bars onto the conveyor chain. Look for signs of poor clearance between the bar end and the chain lug. Minor modifications to the bar end to improve clearance are allowed.

When bar (A) is mated to lug (B), look for the surfaces of bar and lug to be even across the top of both parts.

After the bar is assembled to the lug with the spring pin, the bar and the chain should rest flat. The bar should have free play (C) at the chain lug.If the bar does not lay flat, or has no free play at the chain lug, see the next step.

Remove material from the bar in area (D), as necessary. Minimum thickness (E) is 5 mm (0.2 inch).
