Rework Procedure
1. Remove air cleaner and air inlet piping.2. Remove turbocharger heat shielding, 1417176 and 1417177.3. Remove 1366301 Turbocharger Groups.4. Remove exhaust manifold heat shielding, 1417178, 1417179, 1417181 and 1417182.5. Remove engine front (machine rear) exhaust manifold sections, right hand(1150549) and left hand(1150555).6. Remove aftercooler vent hose. Coolant may need to be drained.7. Install aftercooler vent hose, 1279862. Reference Illustration 1.8. Install engine front exhaust manifold sections, right hand(1108772) and left hand(1108771). Reference Illustration 2. New gaskets, nuts, and bolts are provided for all joints.
9. Install balance pipe, 1295447, and sleeves, 1108719. reference Illustration 2.10. Install new exhaust manifold wrap. Reference Illustration 3.11. Install new turbo, 1488172. Reference Illustrations 4 and 5.a. Loosen, but do not remove, all eight bolts (1) connecting the upper aftercooler cover, 1223175, to intermediate aftercooler cover.b. Set turbo on engine with band clamps to turbine (2) and compressor (3) housings loose enough to rotate housings, but tight enough to keep housings on turbo.c. Use 2 bolts (4) to loosely hold turbine housing to exhaust manifold joint in place.d. Rotate cartridge into proper position and install two bolts (5) that connect turbo drain line to turbo.e. Loosely connect up other coolant and oil lines.f. Tighten turbine housing to cartridge joint band clamp (2) (9N2038) (10 ft lb). Tap turbine housing several times and re-tighten band clamp, ensuring cartridge and housings are assembling properly.g. Install other two bolts (4) (not installed in Step 3) and finger tighten all four turbine housing to exhaust manifold joint bolts.h. Rotate compressor housing into position and tighten compressor housing band clamp (3) enough to hold compressor housing orientation.i. Start two bolts (6), not shown, that connect compressor housing to aftercooler cover (1223175). Make sure compressor housing is not binding turbocharger cartridge.j. Tighten two bolts (6) that connect compressor housing to aftercooler cover (1223175).k. Tighten all coolant and oil lines.l. Tighten all four turbine housing to exhaust manifold bolts (4).m. Tighten eight bolts (1) connecting the upper aftercooler cover, 1223175, to intermediate aftercooler cover, 1123591.12. Install turbo softwrap, 1417176 and 1417177.13. Flash program ECM with new engine software, 1501194, or install personality module, 1501196.Changes to Aftercooler Vent Line Group, 1126060
