PRIORITY - PRODUCT IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM FOR REPLACING 4N-7431 ATAAC HOSE ON CERTAIN TRACK-TYPE TRACTORS

Dear Cat Product Owner:
The air to air aftercooler (ATAAC) hose needs to be inspected/replaced on the products listed below. The existing ATAAC hose can fail. You will not be charged for the service performed.
Contact your local Cat dealer immediately to schedule this service. The dealer will advise you of the time required to complete this service.
Please refer the dealer to their Service Letter dated 23Oct2012 when scheduling this service.
We regret the inconvenience this may cause you, but urge you to have this service performed as soon as possible to prevent unscheduled downtime.

Rework Procedure
1. Open the right engine enclosure door in order to gain access to the 4N-7431 ATAAC Hose. Refer to Image1.1.1.

2. Untighten the two 216-4983 Clamps using a ratchet wrench. Refer to Image1.2.1.

3. If necessary, untighten the 8T-4186 Bolt that holds the 301-2745 ATAAC Tube. Refer to Image1.3.1.

4. Pull out the ATAAC tube/hose from the cooling outlet tube. Remove the hose from the ATAAC tube. Cut the hose if necessary.
5. Ensure that the air line is not contaminated while completing this Rework Procedure. Temporarily plug the air line if necessary. Refer to Image1.4.1.

6. Prepare a new 4N-7431 ATAAC Hose. Ensure that the hose has a date code on it. Do not install any 4N-7431 ATAAC Hose that does not have a date code.
7. Install grease at each end of the hose in order to facilitate the assembly. Refer to Image1.5.1.

8. Install the new 4N-7431 ATAAC Hose with two new 216-4983 Bolt Clamps. Tighten the two bolt clamps to a specified torque of 7.5 N.m. Refer to Image1.6.1 and 1.6.2.

9. Tighten ATAAC tube if necessary. Tighten to a specified torque of 55 N.m. Refer to Image1.7.1.
