Troubleshooting Test Steps    Values    Results    
1. Inspect the Fan
A. Inspect the fan for the following conditions:
1. Damaged fan blades
2. Debris against the fan blades
3. Air flow is obstructed
   
Damaged fan    
Result: The fan is not damaged or obstructed.
Proceed to Test Step 2.
Result: The fan is obstructed.
Remove the obstruction. Verify that the problem is resolved.
Result: The fan is damaged.
Replace the fan. Verify that the problem is resolved.
   
2. Check for Voltage at the Fan
A. Disconnect the two-pin connector to the fan.
B. Turn the keyswitch to the ON position.
C. Measure the voltage between pins 1 and 2 on the connector.
   
Voltage equal to battery voltage    
Result: The voltage is equal to battery voltage.
Proceed to Test Step 3.
Result: The voltage is not equal to battery voltage.
The problem is in the wiring between the fan and the battery. Check the fuse between the fan and the battery. Repair the wiring.
   
3. Check for Continuity Between the Fan and the ECM
A. Turn the keyswitch to the OFF position.
B. Disconnect the four-pin connector from the aftertreatment cooling fan.
C. Disconnect the J1 and J2 connector from the ECM.
D. Check for continuity between pins 1, 3 and 4 on the 4-pin connector and the associated pins on the ECM connector. Refer to the appropriate wiring schematic.
   
Continuity    
Result: There is continuity on all three wires.
Replace the aftertreatment cooling fan. Verify that the problem is resolved.
Result: There is not continuity on all three wires.
Repair the wiring or replace the wiring. Verify that the problem is resolved.
