Connections for the Communication Adapter III and Cat Electronic Technician (Cat ET) Service Tool.
The components that are needed to use the Communication Adapter III and Cat Electronic Technician (Cat ET) Service Tool are:
(1) Cable
(2) 317-7484 Communication Adapter Gp
(3) 457-6114 CA3 Ethernet FLASH Cable
(4) Current version of Cat ET software and an IBM-compatible personal computerNote: The display can only be flashed with a direct Ethernet connection. To flash, connect an Ethernet cable to the RJ45 port on the CA3 adapter harness. Connect the remaining end of the Ethernet cable to the LAN connection on the computer.Perform the following procedure to flash program an ECM. An ECM is flashed to upgrade the software. An ECM must be flashed if an ECM has been replaced. The 7X-1710 contains the program WinFlash. WinFlash is used to load software into an ECM.
Connect the data link cable between the communication adapter and Cat ET.
Connect the data link cable between the communication adapter and the diagnostic connector of the machine.
Turn the disconnect switch and the key start switch to the ON position.
Set the implement lockout to the LOCKED position.
Make sure that the transmission direction switch is in the neutral position.
Verify that the engine is not running.
Use WinFlash to load the software.
