Install Tooling (B) in place of bolt (1). Remove the remaining bolts (1).
Install Tooling (C) in cover (2). Tighten Tooling (C) evenly to loosen cover (2).

Attach Tooling (A) and a suitable lifting device to cover (2). The weight of cover (2) is approximately 35 kg (77 lb). Remove cover (2).

Remove O-ring seal (3), plug (4) and the O-ring seal.
Remove bolts (5) and axle shaft spacer (6) from the back of cover (2).

Use Tooling (D) to retract axle shaft (7) from the final drive assembly by 762 mm (30.0 inch).
Use a suitable lifting device to remove axle shaft (7). The weight of axle shaft (7) is approximately 90 kg (198 lb). Remove axle shaft (7).

Remove retaining ring (8), sun gear (9), and spacer (10) from the end of axle shaft (7).
Repeat Step1 through Step 10 for the remaining axle shaft.Installation Procedure

Keep all parts clean from contaminants.Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.
Note: The installation procedures for the front axle shafts and for the rear axle shafts are identical.

Use a suitable lifting device to position axle shaft (7) into the final drive. The weight of axle shaft (7) is approximately 90 kg (198 lb).
Slide Tooling (E) over the end of axle shaft (7).
Use Tooling (E) to guide axle shaft (7) into the splines of the service brake and the splines of the differential.

Install spacer (10) and sun gear (9) on the end of axle shaft (7).
Align the sun gear with the planetary gears and slide the sun gear completely onto the axle shaft. Install retaining ring (8).Note: Rotate the wheel assembly to align the sun gear with the planetary gears. If the axle assembly and the tires are still installed on machine, the tire must be raised off the ground to rotate the wheel assembly.

Install axle shaft spacer (6) and bolts (5) to the back of cover (2).
Install the O-ring seal and plug (4). Tighten plug (4) to a torque of 105 10 N m (77 7 lb ft).

Lubricate the bore of the O-ring seal with the lubricant that is being sealed. Install a new O-ring seal (3) in the groove of the final drive assembly.

Use Tooling (A) to install cover (2). The weight of cover (2) is approximately 35 kg (77 lb). Install cover (2) and bolts (1).

Install final bolt (1). Tighten bolts (1) to a torque of 135 20 N m (100 15 lb ft).
Install the drain plug into the final drive.
Fill the axle housing and the final drives with oil. Refer to the Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Differential and Final Drive Oil - Change".End by:a. Disconnect the Steering Frame Lock.
