Problem
A change is required in the Reuse and Salvage Guideline, SEBF9179, in which Caterpillar will now require a different Top Piston Ring Groove Gauge. The reuse criteria for the top piston ring groove has changed to allow for more wear before replacing the piston. This change has made the 327-8644 Gauge Tool obsolete for measuring this top ring groove wear.Solution
The 510-5864 Top Piston Ring Groove Gauge has been developed and made available to account for the new allowable wear. The 327-8644 Gauge was canceled and replaced by the 510-5864 Gauge. SEBF9179 is being updated to call out the correct gauge part number.Recommendations
If you have previously purchased the 327-8644 Gauge, remove the gauge from your tooling inventory and scrap. Replace by purchasing the new 510-5864 Gauge for your tooling inventory.
