3208 EnginesThere have been some reports of problems with damaged or broken rocker arm shafts on 3208 Engines. This type of failure is some times caused by too little torque on rocker arm shaft assembly mounting bolts. If the shaft assembly is installed with one or more of the rocker arm adjustment screws in contact with a push rod, the torque indication for the mounting bolts will not be correct.
When the rocker arm shaft assembly is installed, make sure that all valve adjustment screws are loose and are not in contact with the push rods. Tighten the mounting bolts to 24 7 N m (18 5 lb ft). Adjust valve lash only after mounting bolts have been tightened.
