Removal Procedure
Start By:
Connect the steering frame lock. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Steering Frame Lock - Separate and Connect".
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Keep all parts clean from contaminants.Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.
Personal injury can result from hot oil or hot components.At operating temperature, oil is hot and under pressure. Hot oil can cause burns.Remove the fill cap only when the engine is stopped, and the fill cap is cool enough to touch with your bare hand.Do not allow hot oil or components to contact skin.
Note: Put identification marks on all lines, on all hoses, on all wires and on all tubes for installation purposes. Plug all lines, all hoses and all tubes. This will help prevent fluid loss and this will help to prevent contaminants from entering the system.Note: Cleanliness is an important factor. Before you begin the removal procedure, the exterior of the components should be thoroughly cleaned. This will help to prevent dirt from entering the internal mechanism.

Open platform door (1) behind the cab in order to access the transmission.

Remove bolts (2) and bolts (4).
Remove cover assembly (3) and the gasket.

Remove bolt (5) and retainer (6) that secures sleeves (8) to transmission control valve (7).

Disconnect sleeves (8) from transmission control valve (7) by sliding sleeves (8) backward. Slide sleeves (8) enough in order to allow clearance for removal of transmission control valve (7).

Disconnect harness assembly (10) from connector (13).
Remove nut (12) from connector (13).
Remove bolts (11), retainer (9), and the gasket.

Remove bolts (14) and the washers.
Attach a suitable lifting device to transmission control valve (7). The weight of transmission control valve (7) is approximately 52 kg (115 lb). Move transmission control valve (7) in order to gain enough clearance for removal of connector (13) (not shown).
Carefully remove transmission control valve (7) from the transmission.
