(46) Generator Enable SwitchNote: To activate the circuit for the magnet, the Generator Enable Switch (46) must be in the ON position. Push the red, lock actuator, to reach this position.The generator is an electro-mechanical device which is designed to convert the mechanical energy into electrical energy (DC).The generator must be operated at the rated speed to develop the full rated voltage and power. For optimum performance, the speed must be maintained within a 1750 RPM 50 RPM range.The generator is a compound, field-wound unit which is self-regulated between zero and full load. The generated voltage is 235 VDC ( 5 VDC ) when the generator is at a constant speed of 1750 RPM and the connected magnet is lifting.The generator is designed with thermal protection which provides an adequate degree of safety. The generator is mechanically mounted to resist shock and vibration from the machine.Note: Do not exceed the rated duty cycle of the magnet. Duty cycle is the number of times in which the magnet has been energized. The duty cycle is measured in 10 minute intervals.The rated duty cycle for the magnet pickup is 75 percent. Exceeding the rated duty cycle reduces lifting capacity because of excessive heat buildup in the magnet. A maximum time of 10 minutes (duration) for magnet ON should be taken to avoid overheating the magnet.Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Tool Selection" for more information on activating a tool. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Magnet Control" for more information on the generator switch.The generator system uses hydraulic flow from the main hydraulic pump (38). The generator control valve (39) controls the operation of the hydraulic motor and the pilot manifold (41) regulates the oil flow to the hydraulic motor. The regulation of the hydraulic oil flow maintains a constant motor speed. The hydraulic motor is coupled to the generator and is the prime mover for the generator. The generator produces the required voltage and power for the magnet.When the generator switch (46) is turned to the ON position, the solenoid valve (18) at the generator control valve (39) is energized.
