Install axle shaft assembly (27). After the other axle shaft assembly has been installed, remove bolt (26) and install the bolt in the differential, as shown.
Repeat Steps 62 through 69 in order to assembly the other end of the axle assembly.

Install spindle (23). Tap nut (14) in order to aid in positioning the spindle. Install 22 nuts (24) .

If necessary, install the bearing cup in the hub.
Install bearing (22) and seal (19) .
Install brake disc (21) and 18 bolts (20) .

Attach a suitable lifting device and a suitable lifting sling to hub assembly (18). Slide hub assembly (18) on spindle (17). The weight of hub assembly (18) is approximately 125 kg (275 lb).

If necessary, install ring gear (12) on hub (15) and install bearing (16) .

Install the washer and spindle nut (14). Use Tooling (F) and tighten spindle nut (14) to a torque of 544 N m (400 lb ft).
Install locking tab (13) on spindle nut (14) .Note:

Install sun gear (10) and retaining ring (11) .

Install two washers and planetary gears (8) on the spider housing.
Place the spider assembly in a suitable press and press pins (9) on the spider housing.
Install set screw (7) on each pin.

Use two persons and install the spider assembly in the planetary. The weight of the spider assembly is approximately 40 kg (90 lb). Install cover (6) on the planetary and install 30 bolts.
Rotate the planetary until plug (5) is at the top. Remove the plug and fill the planetary with oil. The capacity of the planetary is 2.4 L (0.63 US gal). Refer to the Operation and Maintenance Manual for the correct procedure.

Use two persons and install service brake assembly (3) and four bolts (2). The weight of the service brake assembly is 39 kg (87 lb).
Repeat Steps 71 through 86 in order to assemble the other planetary.

Attach a suitable lifting device, suitable chains, and Tooling (A) to axle (1) and remove the axle from the stands. The weight of the axle is approximately 1250 kg (2755 lb).
Add oil to the axle housing. The capacity of the drive axle housing is 20.8 L (5.5 US gal). Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual for the correct procedure.End By: Install the drive and steering axle. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Drive and Steering Axle - Install".
