Rework Procedure
Note: This procedure requires a communication adapter and a PC (Personal Computer) which is installed in ERT (Engine Reprogramming Tool). Refer to REHS9223 about the ERT Download procedure.The updated engine software number is 1H29269953.Procedure to Download File
Access to SIS (Service Information System) web.

Find “C2.4, C3.3B and C3.8 Downloads”, and click the link. Refer to Illustration 2.

You will be connected to "ECU and DCU Service and Diagnosis". Click the option "ECU and DCU Data Pack (DPK) Downloads". Refer to Illustration 3.

Click the button "Type 1 DPK for ERT (PGM)". Refer to Illustration 4.

Enter the updated engine software number "1H29269953" in the blank cell and click "Search". Refer to Illustration 5.

The updated engine software file will be found. Click "Download". Software download will then start. Save the file on your PC. Refer to Illustration 6.Flashing Procedure with the Engine Reprogramming Tool (ERT)
Connect the Caterpillar Communication Adapter 3Note: The Caterpillar Communication Adapter 3 is required.
Turn the key switch in the "ON" position with the engine NOT running.Note: For the 308E2 models, the machine speed setting must be set at "1". If the setting is not set at "1", flashing will not occur.

Select the Correct ECM Type depending on flashing needs. Refer to Illustration 8.Note: Engine ECU (C3.3B or C3.8 must be selected when flashing a DCU.

Select "Browse" and then select the DPK file that was downloaded for the engine and ECM being flashed. Refer to Illustration 9.

Select "Validate". This selection will change two of the four fields above to "Green".Note: If the ECM/DCU Serial Number or Engine Serial Number is "Red", then it states that incorrect Engine Serial Number or ECM/DCU serial number was entered when creating the DPK file from the website.
Then Select "Write". Refer to Illustration 10.

During the flashing process, a pop-up window will display. The instructions must be followed.
Turn the Key Switch to the "OFF" position.
Wait 10 Seconds.
Turn the Key Switch to the "ON" position without the engine running.
Select "OK". Refer to Illustration 11.Note: If any of the above steps are not followed, an error will occur, engine flashing will not complete, and the process will need to be restarted.
After completing the flash process, select "Close" to close the ERT and the engine can be started.
