Put retainers (12) in position and install bolts (11). Tighten bolts (11) to a torque of 240 40 N m (175 30 lb ft).
After four retainers (12) have been installed, use a suitable press to push retainers (12) even with the surface of the carrier.

If washers (10) have been removed, install washers (10) in each end of gear (9).

Attach a suitable lifting device to carrier (7). Lower carrier (7) into position on gear (9).

Install spiral lock ring (8) to hold gear (9) in position in carrier (7).

Put gear (16) in position in carrier (7).
Install Tooling (H) to hold gear (16) in position in carrier (7).
Attach Tooling (C) and a suitable lifting device to carrier (7). The weight of carrier (7) is approximately 185 kg (408 lb).Note: Tooling (H) must be removed before carrier (7) is installed in the final drive.
Lower carrier (7) in the final drive until carrier (7) is approximately 25.4 mm (1.00 inch) above the hub. Remove Tooling (H) and fully install carrier (7).

If the bearing cups were removed from gear (5), lower the temperature of the bearing cups and install the bearing cups in gears (5).
Put bearing cones (6) in position in gears (5).

Put gears (5) and the bearing cones in position in the carrier.
The use of liquid nitrogen is not approved by Caterpillar. Use a freezer set to −29 °C (−20 °F) to lower the temperature of the components. Refer to Reusability of Tapered Bearings, SEBF8190.
Lower the temperature of shafts (4). Use a suitable press to install shafts (4) in carrier (1) with gears (5). Install shafts (4) until the small end of shafts (4) extends 0.08 0.05 mm (0.003 0.002 inch) past the surface of the carrier. There must be metal to metal contact between shafts (4) and the retainers.

Put the O-ring seals in position in retainers (3).
Put retainers (3) in position on the shafts and install the bolts that hold the retainers in place. Tighten the bolts to a torque of 240 40 N m (175 30 lb ft).
After retainers (3) have been installed, use a press and push retainers (3) even with the surface of the carriers.

Install the O-ring seal on carrier (1).
Attach Tooling (A) and a suitable lifting device to carrier (1). The weight of carrier (1) is approximately 431 kg (950 lb). Lower carrier (1) into position in the final drive.

Install bolts (2) to hold carrier (1) in place. Tighten bolts (2) to a torque of 1050 150 N m (774 111 lb ft).End By:
