This diagnostic code is recorded when the VIMS electronic control module determines that there is an open circuit in the display backlight return circuit.Test Step 1. CHECK FOR OPEN BACKLIGHT LAMPS.
Check for open backlight lamps in the message center and the bottom portion of the speedometer/tachometer module. Expected Result:The lamps are good.Results:
OK - The lamps are good. Proceed to test step 2.
NOT OK - The lamps are open.Repair: Replace the open lamps.STOPTest Step 2. CHECK FOR OPEN HARNESS
Turn the key start switch and the disconnect switch to the OFF position.
Disconnect the VIMS electronic control module and the message center backlighting from the machine harness.
Measure the resistance of the display backlight return circuit from contact J2-68 (wire 614-PU(Purple)) of the VIMS electronic control module to the lamp socket of the message center (wire 614-PU(Purple)). Expected Result:The resistance is less than 5 ohms.Results:
OK - The resistance is less than 5 ohms. The display back light return circuit in the machine harness is correct. The VIMS electronic control module has failed.Repair: Replace the VIMS electronic control module. Refer to the Testing and Adjusting, "Module-Replace" section. STOP
NOT OK - The resistance is greater than 5000 ohms. The machine harness has failed. The display back light return circuit is open in the machine harness.Repair: Repair the machine harness or replace the machine harness.STOP
