SKIRT 5115723 - Caterpillar

Before removing or disconnecting any hydraulic lines, mark the line and connection to aid correct reassembly. After removal or disconnection of lines, immediately cap off open ports and line ends to prevent ingress of dirt and debris which will damage the system when the machine is returned to service.
1. Disconnect two hoses (1) and remove fittings (2) from the steering cylinder. 2. Remove five bolts (3) from the right side of the cylinder. 3. Withdraw the cylinder from the housing.Steering Cylinder - Install
1. Apply 7M7260 Liquid Gasket to the mating faces of the cylinder and housing. Install the cylinder into the housing and secure with five bolts. 2. Install fittings (2) and connect hoses (1).End by:a. Install steering tie rods.Steering Cylinder - Disassemble
Start by:a. Remove steering cylinder. 1. Remove snap ring (1) from end cap (2) using Tool (A). 2. Push end cap (2) into the cylinder body (3) to gain access to snap ring (4) and remove using Tool (A). 3. Remove end cap (2). Remove O-ring seal (5) and back up ring (6) from the outside of the end cap. Remove the wiper ring (7), back up ring (8) and O-ring seal (9) from the inside of the end cap. 4. Remove piston (10) from the cylinder body. Remove two wear rings (11) and two part sealing ring (12) from the piston. 5. Remove wiper ring (13), back up ring (14) and O-ring seal (15) from cylinder body (3).Steering Cylinder - Assemble
Prior to assembly ensure all components are clean. Precision fitted components will be damaged by foreign material.
1. Lubricate O-ring seal (15) with clean hydraulic oil and install O-ring seal, back up ring (14) and wiper ring (13) into cylinder body (3). 2. Assemble Tool (A), over the rod of the piston (10) with the taper uppermost. Install the rubber portion of the two part piston seal (12) onto the piston.3. Install the second part of the two part piston seal (12) onto the piston and remove Tool (A). 4. Install two wear rings (11) to piston (10). 5. Assemble Tool (B), onto the rod of piston (10) with the chamfered bore downward. Carefully slide the sleeve over the piston and leave in position for fifteen minutes to compress the piston seal (12) to the correct size. 6. Position Tool (C), on the end of the piston rod to guide the piston rod through the sealing rings in the body.7. Install piston (10) into body (3) so that the piston comes out of the sizing sleeve, Tool (B), on the opposite side to the chamfer. The piston rod will push Tool (C), out of the body as it passes through the seals. 8. Lubricate the O-ring seals with clean hydraulic oil. Install O-ring seal (9), back up ring (8) and wiper ring (7) to the inside of the end cap (2). Assemble O-ring seal (5) and back up ring (6) to the outside of the end cap.9. Position Tool (B), onto the end cap (2) with
