Removal Procedure
Start By:
Remove engine oil cooler
Keep all parts clean from contaminants.Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Personal injury can result from parts and/or covers under spring pressure.Spring force will be released when covers are removed.Be prepared to hold spring loaded covers as the bolts are loosened.
Drain the engine oil. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Engine Oil and Filter - Change" for the proper draining and filling procedures.

Remove bolts (2), bolts (3), cover (1), tube assembly (4), and flange (5).

Remove bolt (6) and disconnect tube assemblies (7).

Attach a suitable lifting device to remove engine oil filter housing (10).
Remove bolts (11) and oil filter housing (10). The weight of oil filter housing (10) is approximately 196 kg (432 lb).

Remove elbow (12), elbow (13), and tube assemblies (7).

Remove bolts (14), cover (15), and the O-ring seals.

Remove oil filter rack (17) and oil filter element (16). Installation Procedure
Install oil filter housing (10) in the reverse order of removal.
