Remove the close coupling adapter (54)
Install a suitable lifting device on the front bearing bracket (55).
Install the same protective strips (64) that are discussed in the note that follows Step 1. Step 1 is located at the beginning of the preceding section of this document. The protective strips are to be placed between the main rotor and main stator. Note: If the generator is equipped with a PMG, then remove the PMG stator prior to the removal of the front bearing bracket. The main rotor shaft can be damaged if the main rotor is allowed to drop on to the stator while the PMG stator is still attached.

Use a pry bar in order to separate the front bracket from the generator. Some front brackets have provisions which allow the use of forcing screws. Remove the front bracket from the generator. Note: The bearing sleeve (72 ) should come off with the generator end bracket. However, the bearing should remain on the main rotor shaft.
If the sleeve is not going to be replaced, then make an alignment mark on the sleeve. The alignment mark is to ensure that the sleeve will be installed correctly when the generator is put back together.
Remove the mounting bolts (74) for the sleeve (72) from the end bracket (71).

Use the following procedure in order to install the bearing.
Raise the temperature of the bearing assembly slowly. Note: The new bearing already contains grease that was applied by the supplier. The bearing should never require the addition of more grease. Do not use any other method or process to raise the temperature of the bearing other than an induction heater or an oven. Heat the bearing to a maximum of 149 °C (300 °F). Do not heat the bearing in an oil bath. The oil bath will dissolve the grease.
While the bearing is heated to 149 °C (300 °F), press the bearing on the shaft until the bearing is seated against the shaft shoulder. Refer to Illustration 6.
Install the generator end bracket as per the instructions in the "End Bracket - Install" section of this publication.
If the generator end bracket is equipped with a retaining bar, attach the retaining bar to the end bracket. Install the retaining bar mounting bolts. Generator Bearing Service
Refer to Special Instruction, REHS4892 for more information about bearing maintenance.Bearing information is shown in Table 5 for the 1600 frame and the 1800 frame generator bearings.
