Start By:a. remove counterweight **This operation is located in the 446 Backhoe Loader Vehicle System Disassembly And Assembly Module, Form No. SENR3978. 1. Raise the machine and install tooling (A) as shown.2. Lower the loader arms until the bucket is resting flat on the ground. With the engine off, move the hydraulic control levers to release the pressure in the hydraulic system.3. Remove eight nuts (2) and the washers, and remove tire and wheel (1) from the machine. Weight of the tire and wheel is approximately 84 kg (185 lb). 4. Remove plug (5) and drain the oil from the final drive. Use two slots (W) to separate planet carrier housing (6) from hub (3).5. Remove two screws (4) and remove planet carrier housing (6) from hub (3). 6. Remove retainer ring (8) from each of four planetary gears (7). 7. Use tool (B) and remove four planetary gears (7).8. Remove the snap ring securing thrust washer (9) in planet carrier housing (6) and remove the thrust washer. 9. Remove retainer ring (10) and remove roller bearing (11) from each of four planetary gears (7). 10. Remove lock bolts (15) and lock plate (12).11. Use tool (C) and remove spanner nut (13). Remove ring gear (14). 12. Use tool (D), and remove hub (3) and outer roller bearing cone (16) from the steering housing. 13. Remove roller bearing cup (17) from hub (3).14. Remove O-ring seal (18) from hub (3). 15. Remove nylon ring (19), lip seal (21), roller bearing cone (20) and the roller bearing cup from hub (3). 16. If necessary, remove wear sleeve (22) from the steering housing.Assemble Final Drive Carrier And Hub Assembly (Front Axle)
1. If removed, install wear sleeve (22) on the steering housing. 2. Lower the temperature of roller bearing cups (17) and (23) and install the roller bearing cups in hub (3). 3. Install roller bearing cone (20) in hub (3). The outer surface of lip seal (21) should be lubricated with a solution of 50% water and 50% alcohol prior to installation. Lubricate the sealing lip of lip seal (21) with a light film of clean oil.4. Use tooling (E) and install lip seal (21). Install the lip seal with the lip toward roller bearing cone (20).5. Install scraper ring (19) in hub (3). The flexible lip of the scraper ring must be facing up. 6. Put hub assembly (3) in position on the steering housing and push roller bearing cone (20) over wear ring (22) until the rear surface of the hub comes in contact with the steering housing. Install O-ring seal (18) on hub assembly (3). 7. Install roller bearing cone (16). Install two lug nuts (24) on a wheel stud and tighten the two nuts together. Install a torque wrench on the outer lug nut as shown.8. Install ring gear (14) and spanner nut (13). Use tooling (C) and tighten spanner nut (13) while rotating hub (3) with the torque wrench. Observe the rolling torque reading
