Operational Modes
The UPS system automatically supplies AC electrical power to the critical load. There are several operational modes that allow the UPS to supply power. Most operating modes have several states that are able to occur within the modes. The mode and the state are displayed on the User Interface. The User Interface is located on the Control Cabinet.The internal systems of the UPS are monitored as well as the incoming utility power. The UPS changes modes automatically between appropriate modes, as required. This is accomplished without the intervention of an operator. Logic functions inside the UPS ensure that changes to the operating modes are automatic and transparent to the critical load.A computer that is connected to the UPS with an RS-232 cable allows the system to be monitored with UPS View. The cable is connected to the RS-232 port that is located in the Customer Tray. The Customer Tray is located on top of the Control Cabinet.Note: UPS View is an option.Refer to the following list for the main operating modes:

Shutdown ModeThe operator can command the system to enter the Online or Bypass modes via the User Interface. When an operator presses the Emergency Power Off button on the front of the Control Cabinet, the system enters the shutdown mode. The operator cannot directly place the system into the Automatic Voltage Regulation Mode. Depending on the conditions (internal) of the UPS and the conditions (external) of the UPS, if the system is in the online mode, the system may automatically change to one of the following modes: the bypass mode, the shutdown mode and Automatic Voltage Regulation Modes.Online Mode

When the system is operating in the online mode, the system is ready to protect the load. When the system is online, the output voltage is being regulated to a value that is within 2 percent of the nominal setpoint. Refer to Illustration 1 for the flow of power in the system when the system is in the online mode.The following statements are true when the system is in the online Mode:
The input circuit breaker "K1" and the output isolation switch "K5" are closed.
The bypass static switch is OFF.
Power flow through the system is via the closed static switch (line) and through the line inductor.
Both of the contactors (inverter) ("K3" and "K4") are closed.
The utility inverters are ON.The inverters regulate the voltage on the DC bus. The inverters control the reactive current through the filter inductors in order to regulate the output voltage of the system. At least two Energy Storage Modules must be connected to the DC Bus. Additionally, the disconnect switches for the Energy Storage Modules must be closed in order for the system to operate in the online mode.There are three states within the online mode.
