Machine ECM
The following is a list of Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) that are associated with the switch circuits of the machine.
Table 1
Machine ECM (MID 299)
DTC Code Description System Response
1834-2 Ignition Key Switch: Data erratic, intermittent, or incorrect The Machine ECM will log the diagnostic code and the warning light on the control panel will flash while this diagnostic code is active. The Transmission ECM will stop energizing the injector solenoids and the engine will shutdown. Possible causes for an FMI 2 diagnostic code are:
A short circuit exists.
An open circuit exists.
The switch has failed.
The ECM has failed. A failure of the ECM is unlikely.

Schematic of the key switch circuit
The preceding diagram is a simplified schematic of the connections for the switch circuits. The schematic is electrically correct. However, not all of the possible harness connectors are shown. Refer to the latest revision of the electrical schematic to view the entire circuitry of the machine.Diagnostic Trouble Code Procedure
Prior to beginning this procedure, inspect the harness connectors that are involved in this circuit. Poor connections can often be the cause of a problem in an electrical circuit. Verify that all connections in the circuit are clean, secure, and in good condition. Check the wiring for pinch points or abrasions. Look for and repair areas that indicate wires are exposed. If a problem with a connection is found, correct the problem and verify that this diagnostic code is active before performing a troubleshooting procedure.

FMI 2 Troubleshooting
1. Check The Switch
A. Turn the disconnect switch and the key start switch OFF.
B. Disconnect the switch from the machine harness.
C. Measure the resistance between the return or ground pin and all input pins, one at a time.
D. Move the switch through the range of selections, and verify continuity.
The resistance should be less than 5 Ω when switch operation indicates continuity, and greater than 5K Ω when switch operation indicates no continuity. OK - The resistance is as expected.
Proceed to Test Step 2.
NOT OK - The resistance is not as expected.
Repair: Replace the switch. Verify that the new switch resolves the diagnostic code.
Note: A resistance that is greater than 5 Ω but less than
