Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

Install ring (9) , ring (14) , seal (8) , seal (11) , seal (12) , and seal (13) onto cylinder head (10) . Use Illustration 1 to ensure that the seals and rings are oriented properly.
Use hydraulic fluid to lubricate the sealing lips of seal (11) , seal (12) , and seal (13) .
Place the components of the backhoe bucket cylinder in position on Tooling (A) .
Hand tighten cylinder head (10) onto cylinder body (6) .
Push cylinder rod (7) into cylinder head (10) .
Remove cylinder head (10) and cylinder rod (7) from cylinder body (6) .
Install seal (3) and ring (4) onto piston (5) .
Install washer (2) , bolt (1) , and piston (5) onto cylinder rod (7) . Tighten bolt (1) to a torque of 3100 350 N m (2290 260 lb ft).
Lubricate the threads of cylinder head (10) with Tooling (C) .
Install piston (5) , cylinder rod (7) , and cylinder head (10) into cylinder body (6) .
Use Tooling (B) to tighten cylinder head (10) to a torque of 600 130 N m (440 95 lb ft).End By: Install the backhoe bucket cylinder onto the machine. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Backhoe Bucket Cylinder - Install".
