Location of purge valves for rear wheelsNote: After you purge the brakes, you may need to reset the actuating pins for the overstroke switch. The actuating pins for the overstroke switch are on the master cylinders. A brake overstroke condition is a Level III warning.When you need to reset the actuating pin, you will push the actuating pin into the housing. Push the actuating pin into the housing until the bottom of the pin is flush with the bottom of the housing.Parking Brake
Though the parking brake application is mechanical, it is very important to remove the air from the parking brake release system. While the engine is running, actuate the parking brake switch five times. This will purge the air from the lines. Actuate the brake in one minute intervals. The parking brake will release after the air has been purged.Automatic Retarder Control (ARC)
A procedure is required to purge any air that may be in the ARC system. This is required under the following circumstances:
Initial assembly of the machine
The automatic retarder control valve is replaced.
Any hoses that supply oil to the automatic retarder control valve are disconnected.
Any hoses that supply oil from the automatic retarder control valve to the brakes are disconnected.Note: This procedure is required in addition to the normal procedures for purging the service brakes.
Start the engine.

Engage parking brake (3) and depress service brake (4) .

(5) ARC ON/OFF switch
Turn ARC ON/OFF switch (5) to the OFF position.

(6) Lever for the manual retarder
Place lever (6) for the manual retarder in the OFF position.

(7) Light for the ARC system
Wait for one second and pull down lever (6) for the manual retarder. Hold lever (6) down until light (7) for the ARC system is in the ON position.

(4) Service brake air control valve
Release foot pedal (4) for the service brakes.

(6) Lever for the manual retarder
Place lever (6) for the manual retarder in the OFF position and wait for one second.

(5) ARC ON/OFF switch
At this point, the purge cycle for the ARC system is active. Turn ARC ON/OFF switch (5) to the ON position in order to instruct the brake ECM to activate the output for the ARC system. The system should be in this state in order to purge the air from the brake lines for the automatic retarder control section of the brake system.

(5) ARC ON/OFF switch
Turn ARC ON/OFF switch (5) to the OFF position in order to instruct the brake ECM to deactivate the output for the automatic retarder control. The system should be in this state in order to allow the service person to alternate between purging the brakes at each wheel. Refer to section "Service Brakes and Retarder" in order to purge the brakes at each wheel.
Repeat step 8 and step 9 until all air is purged from the system.Note: The purge cycle for the ARC system
