(4) Outlet passage for the power train oil The power train oil cooler is mounted horizontally on the right side of the engine. The oil cooler is a water to oil type cooler. The oil cooler uses the coolant from the engine cooling system to cool the oil.The engine coolant enters the oil cooler at the inlet passage for the coolant (2) that is on the front of the manifold of the oil cooler. Coolant flows through the tubes in the cooler. The coolant removes heat from the oil. The coolant then flows out of the oil cooler through the outlet passage for the coolant (1) on the rear of the manifold of the oil cooler. The coolant is then cooled by the engine cooling system.High temperature power train oil enters the cooler from the filter. This oil enters the bottom of the oil cooler at the inlet passage for the power train oil (3) near the front of the oil cooler. The oil flows along the tubes in the oil cooler.The heat from the power train oil is transferred to the engine coolant. The power train oil exits through the outlet passage for the power train oil (4) on the rear of the oil cooler.When the oil exits the cooler, some oil is diverted in order to provide cooling to the rotor of the generator. The remaining oil flows to the electric drive propulsion module. Inside the electric drive propulsion module, the oil provides lubrication and cooling for the planetaries and the brakes. The oil also provides cooling for the motors in the propulsion module.
