Information:

1. Start the machine, and turn the tractor so it is at a right angle (90 degrees) to the scraper.FLUID SPILLAGE CONTAINMENTCare must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids. Refer to "TOOLS AND SHOP PRODUCT GUIDE, NENG2500", for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids in Caterpillar machines. Dispose fluids according to local regulations and mandates.2. Remove the drive axle shafts. Refer to the topic "Remove & Install Drive Axle Shafts" in this module. 3. Remove two drain plugs (1), and drain the oil from the transmission in a suitable container for storage or disposal. The capacity of the transmission is 127 Liters (33 U.S. gal). Remove drain plug (2), and drain the oil from the differential case in a suitable container for storage or disposal. The capacity of the differential case is 136 Liters (36 U.S. gal). 4. Disconnect electrical connector (3). Remove the bolt and clip (4), and disconnect electrical wiring harness (5). Remove two bolts (6), and remove guard (7). 5. Remove the bolt and clip (8). Disconnect electrical wiring harness (9). 6. Fasten Tool (A) to power train guard assembly (10). Remove the bolts that hold power train guard assembly (10) in position. Remove power train guard assembly (10). The weight of power train guard assembly (10) is 177 kg (390 lb). 7. Remove three bolts (11), and remove cover (12). 8. Remove two bolts (13), the washers and the plate from the end of the drive shaft. Remove retaining ring (14). 9. Install one 3/8 in - 16 NC bolt (16) in the end of drive shaft (15) in the threaded holes provided. Using the bolt, slowly pull drive shaft (15) partially out of the transfer gear case assembly. The weight of drive shaft (15) is 46 kg (101 lb). Using two persons, remove drive shaft (15) from the transfer gear case assembly. 10. Remove four bolts (19), and remove guard (20). 11. Remove clip (21), and disconnect electrical wiring harness (22). 13. Disconnect two electrical wiring harnesses (23). Remove the two bolt and clips (24). Remove the nine bolts and clips (26). Move electrical wiring harnesses (25) out of the way.14. Remove the bolts that hold bracket (27). Remove bracket (27), and move bracket (27) and hoses out of the way. 15. Remove eight bolts (28) and the two flanges. Remove two tube assemblies (29). 16. Remove bolt (30), and remove three nuts (31). Remove manifold (32). Remove the O-ring seals from manifold (32). 17. Remove two sleeves (33). Remove the O-ring seals from each end of sleeves (33). 18. Remove bolts (34). Remove cover (35) and the shims behind cover (35). 19. Install a 3/8 in - 16 NC Forged Eyebolt in the end of pin (36), and remove pin (36). Remove the O-ring seal
