System configuration parameters are configured to specify the emissions levels, the power rating, and the specific application. Default values for the parameters are programmed at the factory. Some parameters may be changed to equip the engine for a specific application. The system configuration parameters must be reprogrammed if the ECM is replaced without using the "Copy Configuration" tool that is in Cat Electronic Technician (ET). If you update the flash file for the ECM, the configuration parameters are retained in the resident memory of the ECM. Certain configuration parameters are stamped into the engine information plate. These parameters may also be changed by using the Messenger panel or by using an aftermarket device (electronic service tool).Some parameters are protected by security passwords. Customer passwords or factory passwords will require Cat ET to change these parameters. Refer to Testing and Adjusting, "Customer Passwords" and Testing and Adjusting, "Factory Passwords" for details.Note: Factory passwords are only available to service technicians from an authorized Cat Dealership. Customers of Caterpillar do not have access to the Cat Feature Protection System (FPS). If the parameters that are protected with factory passwords are changed without authorization from Caterpillar, the repair may not be covered under the Caterpillar warranty.ECM Identification Parameters

Before the initial start-up, a current gas analysis is required. Periodic gas analyses are also recommended. Use the Cat Software, LERW4485, "Gas Engine Rating Pro (GERP)" to calculate the fuel properties to input in the ECM.Note: Use Cat GERP Software, LERW4485, "Gas Engine Rating Pro (GERP)" to calculate the fuel properties. Improper programming of the air/fuel ratio control can result in damage to the engine.GERP also contains information that is related to engine performance.Emissions Feedback Mode Configuration (CG137-12 Engines)(If Equipped)
The "Emissions Feedback Mode Configuration" parameter can be set to "Oxygen Feedback" or to "Feedback Disabled". This feature allows the feedback control to be disabled to troubleshoot the engine. For example, disable this feature to determine if the air/fuel ratio control is the cause of a problem with instability of the engine.If a problem with the oxygen sensor is suspected, set this parameter to "Feedback Disabled". This setting will place the engine control in open loop mode. Use the "Emissions Feedback Disable Fuel Actuator Position Command" parameter to adjust the air/fuel mixture for the engine.
