Additional Refrigerant Circuit Problems For PAG Orifice Tube Systems
Problem - There is insufficient cooling. The magnetic clutch of the compressor engages.Probable Cause:
The belt for the compressor is loose or worn. There could be restrictions or foreign material in the condenser.
There is a missing orifice tube.
The orifice tube is plugged or there is a restriction in the liquid line.
The system is low on refrigerant.
Connect the manifold gauge set. Perform a performance check after the system is charged. Allow the system to operate for a minimum of ten minutes.
Start the engine. Operate the engine at 1400 rpm. Move the temperature control knob to the maximum cool position. Put the fan switch to the high position. Close all the windows and the doors. Operate the engine for a minimum of ten minutes in order to stabilize the system.Note: The ambient temperature should be above 21°C (70°F).
Feel the accumulator. The outlet should be cold. If the outlet is not cold, check the reading on the manifold gauge set.
If the low pressure gauge is reading above 345 kPa (50 psi) check for a missing orifice tube.
If the low pressure gauge is reading a vacuum, check for a plugged orifice tube. There could be a restriction in the refrigerant lines. A restriction in the liquid line can be detected by running a hand along the line until there is a temperature change. The change in temperature will usually indicate the location of the restriction.
If the inlet to the accumulator and the outlet to the accumulator are warm, check for a partial charge of refrigerant in the system.
