Start By:a. separation of final drive and steering clutch and brake
The brake group contains springs that are under compression. To prevent possible personal injury from flying parts, the brake group must be disassembled exactly as the following steps describe. Do not remove bolts (3) until after bolts (5) are slowly loosened and removed.
1. Remove four bolts (2) and plate (1) from the steering clutch and brake assembly.2. Fasten a hoist and tooling (A) to brake group (4). Remove brake group (4) from steering clutch group (6). The weight of the brake group is approximately 326 kg (719 lb).
Bolts (3) and (5) hold a spring under compression. To prevent possible personal injury from flying parts, bolts (5) must be removed before bolts (3).
3. Loosen bolts (5) slowly and evenly to partially release the spring tension in the brake group. Remove bolts (5) and retainer (7) from the brake housing.4. Remove eight discs (12) and seven plates (11) from the brake housing. Remove cushion plate (13) and wave spring (14).5. Turn the brake group over.6. Loosen seven bolts (3) slowly and evenly until the spring tension in the brake group is completely released.7. Fasten a hoist and tooling (A) to brake housing (17). Remove the brake housing from retainer (9). The weight of the brake housing is approximately 84 kg (185 lb).8. Remove two rings (15), two springs (16) and ring (26).9. Remove piston (18) from retainer (9).10. Remove ring (25) from the inside diameter of piston (18).11. Remove ring (10) from retainer (9).12. Remove bearings (8) and (23) from retainer (9).13. Remove two O-ring seals (24) from brake housing (14).14. Remove sleeve (19) from the brake housing.15. Remove spool (21) from sleeve (19).16. Use tool (B) and remove snap ring (20) from sleeve (19).17. If necessary, remove pin (22) from the brake housing. 18. Remove four bolts (29) and hub (30) from the steering clutch group.19. Remove ring (40) from hub (30).20. Use tool (C) and remove snap ring (31) from shaft assembly (43).21. Remove bearing (32) and plate (33) from shaft assembly (43).22. Remove bolts (27) and retainer (28).23. Remove discs (39) and plates (34).24. Remove piston (35) from hub (44). Remove ring (36) from piston (35).25. Remove shaft assembly (43) from hub (44).26. Remove ring (45) from hub (44).27. Use tool (C) and remove snap ring (37) from shaft assembly (43).28. Remove three rings (42) from shaft assembly (43).29. Remove ring (41) from plate (38).30. Use a press and tool (D) and remove plate (38) from shaft assembly (43).Assemble Steering Clutches And Brakes
1. Lower the temperature of bearings (8) and (23) and install the bearings in retainer (9).2. Install ring (10) on retainer (9) with the lip of the ring as shown.3. Install ring (25) in piston (18) with the lip of the ring as shown. Put clean oil on the rings.4. Put piston (18) in position on retainer (9). Springs (16) must be installed with the concave surface of the springs facing each other.5. Install one
