Information:
Reference: Refer to Testing and Adjusting, "System Schematic" for details on this relay. This diagnostic code is recorded when the ECM reads the voltage of the Roll Over Protection System (ROPS) Forward Light Relay is above normal (short to the +battery circuit). There are two relays in this circuit and both will need to be tested.Note: This diagnostic code will only appear active when the Manual Override switch in the cab is in the manual position. While the machine is in Remote mode, the lights may not work properly.Note: This procedure can cause new diagnostic codes to be recorded. Ignore these created diagnostic codes. Complete the following procedure. Then clear the created diagnostic codes.Test Step 1. CHECK THE SIGNAL CIRCUIT OF THE RELAY FOR A SHORT IN THE REMOTE CONTROL HARNESS.
Turn the Manual/Remote Mode switch on the Ground Level Service Center to the Manual position.
Disconnect the Yellow Connector of the Remote Control Harness from the Remote Control Electrical Center (relay box).
Disconnect the Remote Control harness connectors J1 from the Remote Control ECM.
At the J1 of the Remote Control harness for the Remote Control ECM, measure the resistance of the relay circuit J1-13 (wire H792-BR(Brown)) to all possible sources of +battery. Expected Result:Each resistance should be greater than 5000 ohms. Results:
YES - The machine harness is correct. Proceed to test step 2.
NO - There is a short in the machine harness.Repair: The short is between the signal contact of the relay and the circuit with the low resistance measurement. Repair the machine harness or replace the machine harness.STOPTest Step 2. CHECK THE SIGNAL CIRCUIT OF THE RELAY FOR A SHORT IN THE REMOTE CONTROL ELECRICAL CENTER (RELAY BOX)
Turn the Manual/Remote Mode switch on the Ground Level Service Center to the Manual position.
The Yellow Connector of the Remote Control Harness remains disconnected from the Remote Control Electrical Center (relay box).
At the Yellow Connector of the Remote Control Electrical Center (relay box), measure the resistance of the relay circuit Contacts - D and E (wire H792-BR(Brown)) to all possible sources of +battery on the other connectors of the Remote Control Electrical Center (relay box). Expected Result:Each resistance should be greater than 5000 ohms. Results:
YES - The Remote Control Electrical Center (relay box) is correct. Proceed to test Step 3.
NO - There is a short in the Remote Control Electrical Center (relay box).Repair: The short is between the signal contact of the relay and the circuit with the low resistance measurement. Replace the Remote Control Electrical Center (relay box).STOPTest Step 3. CHECK IF THE DIAGNOSTIC CODE REMAINS.
Inspect the contacts and clean the contacts of the harness connectors.
Reconnect all harness connectors.
Turn the Manual/Remote Mode switch to the Remote position.
Ensure that the Manual Override switch in the Cab is in the Manual position.
Observe the status of the diagnostic code in Cat ET. The diagnostic code is present or the diagnostic code is NOT present. Expected Result:The diagnostic code for the relay is NO longer present. Results:
YES - The diagnostic code is NOT present.Repair: The diagnostic code does not
Turn the Manual/Remote Mode switch on the Ground Level Service Center to the Manual position.
