At operating temperature, the engine coolant is hot and under pressure. Steam can cause personal injury. Check the coolant level only after the engine has been stopped and the fill cap is cool enough to touch with your bare hand. Remove the fill cap slowly to relieve pressure. Cooling system conditioner contains alkali. Avoid contact with skin and eyes to prevent personal injury.
1. Release the pressure in the cooling system by slowly loosening the filler cap on the radiator. Drain the coolant from the radiator into a suitable container for storage or disposal. The capacity of the cooling system is 49 liters (12.7 U.S. gal). To allow access to the mounting bolts for the air compressor, the fuel priming pump must be moved. 2. Disconnect tube assembly (2) from the fuel priming pump.3. Remove two bolts (3), the washers and spacers, and move fuel priming pump (1) out of the way. 4. Disconnect four clamps (5) that hold the hoses and wiring harness to air compressor (6).5. Put identification marks on seven hoses and tube assemblies (4) that are connected to the air compressor for installation purposes. Disconnect the seven hoses and tube assemblies from the air compressor. 6. Fasten a lifting strap, tool (A) and a hoist to air compressor (6). Remove two bolts (7) that hold the air compressor to the front housing. Remove the air compressor and the gasket from the front housing. The weight of the air compressor is 18 kg (40 lb). The following steps are for the installation of the air compressor.7. Check the condition of the gasket used between the air compressor and the front housing. If the gasket is worn or damaged, use a new part for replacement.8. Install the air compressor in the reverse order of removal.9. Fill the cooling system with coolant to the correct level. See the Operation & Maintenance Manual for the correct filling procedure.
