Pressurized system: Hot coolant can cause serious burn. To open cap, stop engine, wait until radiator is cool. Then loosen cap slowly to relieve the pressure.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Do not change the coolant until you read and understand the material in the Cooling System Specifications section.
Mixing Extended Life Coolant (ELC) with other products reduces the effectiveness of the coolant and shortens coolant life. Use only Caterpillar products or commercial products that have passed the Caterpillar EC-1 specifications for premixed or for concentrate coolants. Use only Caterpillar Extender with Caterpillar ELC. Failure to follow these recommendations could result in the damage to cooling system components. If ELC cooling system contamination occurs, refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, SEBU6250, "Caterpillar Machine Fluids Recommendations" under the topic of ELC Cooling System Contamination. This machine was factory filled with Extended Life Coolant.
Drain the coolant whenever the coolant is dirty or whenever foaming is observed.Jacket Water Cooling System
Note: The jacket water cooling system contains 60 percent of the coolant capacity of the machine.

Close the drain valve. Install all drain plugs. Fill the system with clean water.
Start the engine and operate the engine for 90 minutes. Check the cooling system for leaks. Stop the engine and drain the cleaning solution into a suitable container.
When the engine is stopped, flush the system with water until the draining water is clear. Drain the water into a suitable container.
Close the drain valve.
Add the coolant solution.

Start the engine. Run the engine without the radiator cap. Run the engine until the thermostat opens and the coolant level stabilizes. If necessary, add coolant. Note: If you are using Caterpillar antifreeze, do not add the supplemental coolant additive at this time and/or change the element at this time.
Install the radiator cap. Water Cooled Aftercooler System
Note: The water cooled aftercooler system contains 40 percent of the coolant capacity of the machine.
