Troubleshooting
Perform the following steps to troubleshoot an event:
Obtain the following information from the operator monitor and the machine operator:
The event and the time of the event
Determine the operating conditions for the engine at the time of the event. Conditions such as engine RPM and load may be important.
Determine if there are any systems that were installed by the dealer or by the customer that could cause the event.
Some of the events below can become active during normal system operation. Verify that the event is not due to error of the operator.
Check all fluid levels and all oil levels.
Troubleshoot and repair any active diagnostic codes.Machine ECM Event Code List
The following table lists the event codes that apply to the control system of the machine. The recommended response is listed. Use the Cat ET service tool to determine the event codes that are active or logged.
Table 2
Machine System Event Identifier (EID) Codes
EID Level Description Recommended Response/Possible Cause
119 2 Low Fuel Level Warning is active for more than 2 seconds. Check fuel level in the tank.
Perform a diagnostic check on the "Fuel Filter Plugged" switch and the "No. 2 Fuel Filter Plugged" switch.
179 2 Alternator Not Charging With an engine speed of greater than 600 RPM, the alternator gauge on the control panel is reading zero.
Use Cat® Electronic Technician (Cat ET) Service Tool to check for diagnostic codes related to the electrical generating system.
232 2 High Fuel / Water Separator Level Warning is active for more than 40 seconds. Change "water separator" filter as soon as possible.
235 2 Low Hydraulic Oil Level This event is active after the conditions which trigger the event have been active for more than 2 seconds.
Check the hydraulic oil level on the liquid indicator gauge on the side of the tank. Fill if the tank is low. If the gauge shows that the tank is full, check the hydraulic lines for damage.
236 2 Return Hydraulic Oil Filter Plugged This event is active only when the machine is traveling and the oil temperature is greater than 50° C (122° F) for 10 seconds or more.
Replace the filter as soon as possible.
If a code is present after the filter is replaced, inspect the hydraulic lines for signs of damage.
237 2 Machine Overload Warning (Sensor Error) Immediately change operation of machine - reduce amount of load.
237 3 Machine Overload Warning Immediate Safe Shut Down of Machine Required.
The machine overload pressure threshold has been exceeded, reduce the load on the machine.
273 1 Security System Active Warning This code is active when an unauthorized key is used to try to start the engine. There is a 5 second debounce time for this code.
Check to see if the proper key has been used to start the machine.
529 2 High Engine Coolant Temperature Derate This event is active when the engine coolant temperature is 107° C (225° F) or greater for more than 10 seconds.
The event is inactive when the coolant temperature is less than 107° C (225° F) for more than 10
