A new final drive cover, plus extra parts, is now available from the parts department as a replacement for the former final drive cover. Installation of the new cover will help prevent oil leakage. To install the new cover, modification must be made to the final drive carrier. See the following procedure and the necessary parts (page 2) that are needed for each specific machine.Modification Of Final Drive Carrier
(1) Drain the oil from the final drive and remove the cover. (See the Service Manual).(2) Remove the existing six studs from the carrier (992C - 49Z354 to 49Z629 uses all bolts), and install six 3D490 Studs (taperlock). Tighten the studs to a torque of 55 7 N m (40 5 lb ft). (3) Using new cover (1) as a guide, mark holes (A), (B) and (C) on the carrier. Drill holes (A), (B) and (C) with a 11 mm Ø (.43" Ø) drill to a depth of 32 mm (1.26"). Make threads in the holes with a 1/2" - 13 tap to a depth of 22 mm (.87"). Install new cover (1) with a 4H6730 Seal, nuts and washers. Use S1585 Bolts with washers in holes (A), (B) and (C). Tighten the bolts to a torque of 135 15 N m (100 12 lb ft) and the nuts to a torque of 100 14 N m (75 10 lb ft). Fill the final drive with oil. (See the Maintenance Guide.)Parts Needed
