Ensure that the rear axle oil is at normal operating temperature.
Install plate (1) to block the cooling supply line and isolate the left side brakes and the right side brakes.
Install plate (2) between manifold (4) and the cooling oil supply hose (3) to block the cooling supply line to the chassis.
Remove both cooling oil return hoses from manifold (6).
Remove rear axle breather (5).Note: Leave the threaded adapter that axle breather (5) was mounted on in the block. Tooling (A) will be installed to the threaded adapter.
Use tooling (A) to connect the pressure regulator to the threaded adapter for the rear axle breather.Note: The pressure regulator is part of tooling (A).
Pressurize the rear axle with air.Note: Do not exceed a pressure of 172 kPa (25 psi).

(7) Port for the right-hand wheel group
(8) Port for the left-hand wheel group
Observe the oil level present in the two sides of manifold (6). If an internal wheel leak allows an oil transfer, the oil level in the side of the manifold with the leak will rise. Refer to Illustration 10. The oil level in Port (7) is higher than the oil level in port (8).
Remove tooling (A).
Install axle breather (5).
Install both cooling oil return hoses to manifold (6).
Remove plate (2) from between manifold (4) and the cooling oil supply hose (3). The plate blocked the cooling supply line to the chassis.
Remove plate (1) that blocked the cooling supply line, and isolated the left side brakes and the right side brakes.Inner Wheel Seal Leak Detection Method 2
Ensure that the rear axle oil is at normal operating temperature.

(1) Inspection covers
Remove the two inspection covers (1) from the back of the axle housing.

Remove the magnetic drain plug from the differential housing. Use a suitable container to drain the oil until the oil level is below internal rib (2) of the differential housing. Install the magnetic drain plug.

(3) Drive coupler for rear axle pump motor
Remove the bolts that attach the rear axle pump motor. Move the rear axle pump motor far enough to remove drive coupler (3).
Remove drive coupler (3). Reinstall the motor onto the rear axle pump.Note: The rear axle motor may be left off the machine during testing to confirm that the seal is not a source of oil transfer.

(4) Brake cooling pump solenoid
Disconnect brake cooling pump solenoid (4).Note: Disconnecting the pump solenoid will allow the pump to reach maximum flow. Do not let the engine speed to exceed 1450 RPM while the brake pump is disconnected to prevent excess oil flow that could damage the seals.
Start the engine.
Observe the oil level in the rear axle housing through the inspection ports. Look for oil spilling from the final drive over internal rib (2) into the center section of the
