528 (97C) Grapple SkiddersIf any type of failure occurs within the axle housing, it is very important to thoroughly flush and clean all areas within the axle housing to remove all foreign material. While there are separate oil level check and fill locations for each final drive and the differential, the oil between the compartments is common.
There have been situations where a gear or bearing failure occurs in one of the axle components. A short time after the repair is completed, another component, such as the differential bearings, may fail. The differential bearing failure was probably caused by debris which was not removed from the earlier final drive failure.
To prevent recurring final drive or differential failure, it is very important to thoroughly clean and flush all interconnecting compartments to remove all debris during the repair procedure. This includes both final drive compartments, the differential housing, and the axle passages in the axle housing.
