Schematic of the "Primary Steering Pressure" sensorThis diagnostic code is associated with the "Primary Steering Pressure" sensor. The pressure sensor sends a variable frequency signal to the ECM in order to indicate the pressure in the primary steering system. The FMI 08 diagnostic code means that the electronic control module (ECM) has determined that the signal frequency not within the expected range. The possible causes of this diagnostic code are listed below:
The sensor has failed.
Intermittent connections or poor connections
The Chassis ECM has failed. A failure of the ECM is unlikely.Note: Check to see if an active CID 0041 diagnostic code for the 8 VDC sensor power supply exists before performing this procedure. If an active CID 0041 diagnostic code is present, correct the problem and clear the diagnostic code before performing this procedure.Note: Ensure that the CID 2470 FMI 08 diagnostic code is active. This procedure can cause new diagnostic codes to be recorded. Ignore these created diagnostic codes. When the problem has been corrected, clear the created diagnostic codes.Test Step 1. CHECK THE SUPPLY VOLTAGE AT THE SENSOR
Turn the disconnect switch and the key start switch to the ON position.
Do not disconnect the sensor from the machine harness.
At the back of the connector for the sensor, insert 7X-1710 Multimeter Probes along supply contact 1 (wire R800-OR) and return contact 2 (wire R998-BR). Measure the voltage.Expected Result:The voltage measurement is approximately 8.0 VDC.Results:
OK - The voltage is approximately 8.0 VDC. The signal is OK. Proceed to Test Step 2.
NOT OK - The voltage is not approximately 8.0 VDC. The voltage is not correct.Repair: There is a problem in the power supply circuit in the machine harness. Refer
