Introduction
The problem that is identified below does not have a known permanent solution. Until a permanent solution is known, use the interim corrective action that is identified below.Problem

Failed tubes due to rubbingThe 353-9422 Tube (B) may interfere with the 384-0241 Tube As (A) in the air lines group on the machines listed above. Over time the tubes rub a hole in each other and cause an air leak. The air leak may present itself through high silica in the engine SOS or through low boost pressure.Solution
Caterpillar is aware of this problem, and is recommending the following interim corrective action.Adjust 384-0241 Tube As (A) and 353-9422 Tube (B) in order to provide a 12 mm (0.5 inch) clearance between the two tubes.
Before proceeding with any adjustments to the tube, ensure that the front hood supports and slides are in good condition and adjusted properly. Refer to Service Magazine, SEPD1607, "A New Hood Support Is Now Used on D9T Track-Type Tractors".

(F) is 50.8 mm (2.00 inch)
Mark a line on the tube assembly (A) above the turbocharger intake elbow. Pull the tube up, so that only distance (F) of the tube remains in the elbow. Tighten clamp (E) to 7.5 1.0 N m (66.4 8.8 lb in).
Illustration 5 g03544607
Rotate the top elbow from the air cleaner to orient with the tube assembly (A) as shown in the Illustration 5. Tighten clamp (C) and clamp (D) to 7.5 1.0 N m (66.4 8.8 lb in).
Close the enclosure door. Ensure that the tube is not making contact with the door. If door contacts tube, ensure that the hood is centered and repeat Step 1 if necessary. If there is still contact, repeat Step 2 through Step 4 and rotate the tube inward.
