Software Flash Files
After identifying software and service replacement part numbers by using one of the above procedures, the software to FLASH onto the engine ECM may be acquired from the Caterpillar Corporate Mailbox System or from the SIS "Setup and Tool Guide" CD. Also, a service replacement (chip with the software already installed) may be ordered from the Caterpillar Parts System.
The software file itself is NOT available through the Caterpillar Parts System. Caterpillar Corporate Mailbox System
A method to acquire software Flash files, is to download the file from the "Caterpillar Corporate Mailbox System". The mailbox system is a utility designed to make software Flash files easily available. This system is a stand-alone system and is not part of the "Caterpillar Network System".
The following is needed to use the Caterpillar Corporate Mailbox System: 1. A computer equipped with any type modem.2. A communications software package entitled "HyperACCESS/5", LERQ3133. This package can be purchased through the Caterpillar Literature System.3. With the HyperACCESS/5 program loaded onto the computer, a phone call needs to be made to the Caterpillar EDI Helpline (1-800-435-7334 ext. 7 or 309-675-0834). The helpline will set up your HyperACCESS/5 program to access the Caterpillar Mailbox System and will assist with any problems. Included with the HyperACCESS/5 software package itself will be additional instructions for installation and setup.
Once the PC has been set up to receive Flash files from the Bulletin Board, the following steps can be used to obtain the desired Flash files: 1. From the DOS prompt (usually C:>), type cd.2. The prompt should now be C:.3. From the HyperACCESS/5 menu now displayed, type C for "Call a system".4. Type D for "Data Call".5. Select Flash Download from the System list in the lower half of the menu.6. The program displays a menu with three options, select Option No.1 Receive Flash part Number Files(s).7.
