Assembly Procedure
Illustration 1 g00409463Note: Before the installation of bearing (5), lower the temperature of the bearing to −45°C (−49.0°F).
Install cover (4) on stud (3). Use a suitable press to install bearing (5).
Install plug (7). Insert retaining ring (6) into the tie rod by hand. Use a brass drift to position the retaining ring.

Screw socket assembly (1).
Failure to follow the recommended procedure or the specified tooling that is required for the procedure could result in damage to components.To avoid component damage, follow the recommended procedure using the recommended tools.
Install clamp (9) on rod (8). Note: When the rod is assembled, position clamps (9) at least 6.4 1.5 mm (0.25 0.06 inch) from the end of the rod. Align the opening of the clamps with the red slot. Tighten clamps (9).
Install bolt (11), the washer, and nut (10).
Repeat Steps 1 through 5 for remaining socket assembly (2). End By:
Install the steering tie rods. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Steering Link - Install" for the correct procedure.
