Introduction
The problem that is identified below has a known solution. The solution for the repair of the problem is identified below.Problem
The weld is insufficient on the 276-1391 Dash on some D6G Series II machines. There is insufficient welding at the lower joint of the dash. The joint may crack on some machines. This area may crack allowing the dash to move. Damage may occur to the instruments and gauges.Solution
Reweld the lower joint of the dash.Reweld the dash by following the attached instructions. For welding procedures, see Specifications, REHS1841, "General Welding Procedures".Preparation
Obtain a cloth that is wet and thick.
The cloth is used to protect hoses and wiring from high welding temperatures and welding sparks.
Obtain a steel plate or other fireproof protection.
Fireproof material will be used to protect glass from welding sparks.
Fire Extinguisher
Have a fire extinguisher on hand.
Clean the area that will be welded. Make sure that the substances that follow are removed from the area that will be welded.
Oil
Grease
Paint
Dirt
Turn off the engine. Put the key start switch in the OFF position.
If the machine has a battery disconnect switch, put the switch in the OFF position. If the machine does not have a battery disconnect switch, disconnect the negative battery cable at the battery.
Connect the ground cable for the welder directly to the actual machine component that will be welded. Place the clamp for the ground cable as close as possible to the welding area. This will reduce the chance of damage from welding current to the components that follow: bearings, hydraulic components and electrical components.Note: Do not use electrical components as a ground point for the welder. Do not use ground points for electronic components as a ground point for the welder. Do not use hoses as a ground point for the welder. Do not use the ground pole on the batteries as a ground point for the welder. Repair Procedure
