Component Code 4050SUBJECT: The Final Drive Wheel Bearing Retainer Plate 108-0059 On The Machines Listed Above May Need To Be Replaced.
PROBLEM 1:
Certain final drive bearing kits for the above machines contain thrust washers? 163-4526 or 185-3653. If the thrust washer is installed without replacing the original 108-0059 retainer plate with the current 163-4527 retainer plate on the above machines the axle shaft will interfere with the final drive cover thrust plate causing a low hour failure.
PROBLEM 2:
The final drive sun gears may wear into the original 108-0059 wheel bearing retainer plate on the above machines. This contact will cause high iron levels in oil SOS readings. Failure to correct this problem may result in a final drive failure.
SOLUTION:
Whenever servicing the axles of the machines listed above check to see if the final drives still have the original 108-0059 retainer plates. If they do, replace the retainer plate in all four final drives following the instructions below.
Note: Please route this TIB to all personnel in your power train rebuild shops.
Required parts for 824G Wheel Dozer, 825G Soil Compactor, 826G Landfill Compactor, and 980G Wheel Loader:
(1) 163-4527-Retainer Plate (4 required)
(2) 163-4526-Thrust Washer (4 required) (May be included with bearing kit) (3) 2S-0736-Hard Washer (40 required) (4) 8T-2393-Socket Bolt (40 required)
Required parts for the 834B Wheel Dozer, 836 Landfill Compactor, and the 988F-II Wheel Loader:
(1) 163-4527-Retainer Plate (4 required)
(2) 185-3653-Thrust Washer (4 required)(May be included with bearing kit)
(3) 2S-0736-Hard Washer (40 required)
(4) 8T-2393-Socket Bolt (40 required)
INSTRUCTIONS: Install the (1) 163-4527 retainer plate to the spindle using the new (4) bolts 8T-2393 and (3) 2S-0736 washers listed. The final torque on the bolts is 125 ? 20 Nm (92 ? 15 lb ft). Turn each bolt, an additional 120 ? 10 degrees. Install the 163-4526 or 185-3653 thrust washer onto the axle shaft so that it is placed between the retainer plate and the sun gear.
Note: Place the chamfered side of the 185-3653 thrust washer against the sun gear. Refer to Detail A.
