Introduction
Bucket breakout or digging force is dependent upon a number of factors:a. System pressure.b. Bucket width.c. Bucket swing radius (distance from bucket hinge to cutting edge or tips).d. Condition of ground engagement tool.e. Material being dug.f. Angle of bucket relative to material being dug. This test determines a cause for low bucket breakout force complaint. 1. Check bucket breakout force. There is no field test for bucket breakout force. To determine whether or not there is low bucket breakout force, use an experienced operator to evaluate the bucket operation on this machine. Expected Result:Bucket breakout force is normal. Results:* OK - STOP.* NOT OK - Proceed to Step 2.2. Check bucket configuration.a. Check condition of bucket cutting edge and tips.b. Check the tip radius of the bucket. Too great of a tip radius (the distance from the bucket hinge pin to the bucket tip or cutting edge) can affect breakout force.c. Check cylinder to bucket hinge plate connection. If bucket has more than one link connection at the hinge plate, make certain it is in the position that will provide the best digging force. Expected Result:Bucket configuration allows for the best dig force. Results:* OK - Proceed to Step 3.* NOT OK - Repair or replace dull cutting edge or ground engaging tools. If tip radius is greater than "normal", change to a different bucket, change method of operation, reduce the penetration of the bucket or dig with the bucket in a position that takes best advantage of the bucket linkage geometry. If bucket is so equipped, place the cylinder to bucket link in the position that provides the best breakout force. If conditions are not resolved, proceed to Step 3.3. Perform Implement And Travel Relief Valve Test And Adjust.Reference: Refer to, "Pressure Adjustment, Adjustment Procedures", Form SENR6187 for additional information. Expected Result:The main system relief valve pressure should be within the permissible service limits of 31 400 +490 -1960 kPa (4550 +72 -285 psi) and the travel system relief valve pressure should be within the permissible service limits of 34 300 +490 -1960 kPa (5000 +72 -285 psi). Results:* OK - Proceed to Step 4.* REPAIRED, OK - STOP.4. Perform Line Relief Valve Test And Adjustment. For further information refer to the section, "Line Relief Valve Test And Adjustment". Expected Result:Line relief valves for head and rod ends of the boom, stick, and bucket cylinders should be within the permissible limits of 33 300 +1470 -2950 kPa (4850 + 215 -425 psi). Results:* REPAIRED, OK - STOP. Proceed to Step 5.* OK - Proceed to Step 5.5. Perform Control Valve Shift Pressure Test. For further information refer to the section, "Control Valve Shift Pressure Test". Results:* REPAIRED, OK - STOP.* OK - Cause for problem not found with this test. The test equipment may be faulty, a repair may have been made incorrectly, or an error may have been made during the diagnosis of this problem. Check to determine whether or not the problem is still present. If it
