The left final drive planetary and the right final drive planetary operate in the same manner. The final drive planetary receives power from the propel motor and the final drive planetary transmits the power to the drive wheels. A drive wheel is attached to the flange on final drive planetary (2). The final drive planetary gives a double reduction in one speed through the use of planetary gears.The power from the ground drive motor is sent to the final drive planetary by the motor output shaft. The incoming power is transmitted by input shaft (3). The final drive planetary is only single speed.The brakes are spring applied and hydraulically disengaged. Springs (1) force input brake (5) to contact retaining ring (4). This forces the carrier to remain locked and the final drive planetary cannot rotate. When the brake control is turned off, hydraulic oil is routed to the final drive planetary. The pressure from the hydraulic oil overcomes the force of the springs. The input brake is no longer in contact with the retainer ring and the final drive planetary can rotate. The brakes are released.The planetary assemblies have an exclusive oil supply. All components get lubrication as the gears move and oil is thrown about the planetary housing. This method is called splash lubrication.
