Skidders With Model 119 Gearmatic WinchAny air in the hydraulic control circuits of the winch will prevent correct operation of the controls, and can cause problems in winch operation. For this reason, it is important to bleed (remove) all air from the hydraulic control circuits during winch installation or when the circuits have been disconnected for parts replacement or any other reason. To bleed air from the system, use the procedure that follows: 1. Move the control lever through its complete stroke, including all control positions, several times.2. Move the control lever to the "FREE SPOOL" position and loosen the fitting connection in the brake circuit at the winch cylinder to let the air out.3. Tighten the fitting connection and move the control lever to the "HOLD" position.4. Do Steps 1 through 3 again as many times as necessary until all the air is removed.5. Follow a similar procedure for the clutch circuit, but move the control lever to the "REEL IN" position for Step 2, and loosen the fitting connection in the clutch circuit at the winch cylinder to let air out.
When all the air is out of the system, the winch spool will turn easily with the control lever in the "FREE SPOOL" position, and the control lever will have a solid feel after a short movement to the "REEL IN" position with a force of 40-50 lb (180-220 N).
