Remove the axle. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Axle - Remove".
Remove the tie rod. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Tie Rods - Remove".
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

Remove plug (1). Drain the oil into a suitable container for storage or for disposal.

Remove plug (2). Drain the oil into a suitable container for storage or for disposal.

Remove bolts (3). Remove cover (4) .

Remove bolts (5). Remove cover (6) .

Attach Tooling (A) and a suitable lifting device onto hub assembly (7). The weight of hub assembly (7) is approximately 295 kg (650 lb).
Use Tooling (B) in order to remove pin (8). Do not exceed 44126 kPa (6400 psi). Apply heat, if necessary. Remove hub assembly (7) .
Repeat Steps 3 through 6 for the opposite side.

Reposition axle housing (9) on suitable cribbing. The weight of axle housing (9) is approximately 499 kg (1100 lb).

Attach Tooling (C) and a suitable lifting device onto differential and bevel gear (10). The weight of differential and bevel gear (10) is approximately 125 kg (275 lb). Remove bolts (11). Remove differential and bevel gear (10) .
