The information supplied in this serviceletter may not be valid after the termination date of this program. Donot perform the work outlined in this Service Letter after the terminationdate without first contacting your Caterpillar product analyst. This Revised Service Letter replacesthe April 30, 2005 (Revised August 2005) Service Letter. The 248-2325 Bearings may fail prematurely inthe second reduction of the final drives of certain 784B, 784C, 785, 785B,785C, 789, 789B, and 789C Off-Highway Trucks. The failures will exhibitmicrowelding which will progress to spalling.The magnetic plugs in the final drives mayshow signs of metal generation or the final drive SOS results for ironlevels may be at 150 parts or above indicating that a failure is in theprocess of occurring and rework is required.AFFECTED PRODUCT

Check magnetic plugs for signs of metal generation.Also review final drive SOS results for iron levels of 150 parts or above.If either indicates a failure remove the carrierand inspect the second reduction final drive bearings. It is only necessaryto remove the carrier.Replace the existing 248-2325 Bearings withnew 284-1472 Bearings.Filter the oil using a kidney loop as needed.SERVICE CLAIM ALLOWANCES
