Personal injury or death can result from escaping fluid under pressure.Escaping fluid under pressure, even a very small pin-hole size leak, can penetrate body tissue and cause serious injury and possible death. If fluid is injected into your skin, it must be treated immediately by a doctor familiar with this type of injury.Always use a board or cardboard when checking for a leak.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
The following procedure can be performed with the swing motor on the machine. The swing motor has been removed for photographic purposes.
Park the machine on a smooth, level surface. Fully lower the machine. Lower the harvester head to the ground.
Place the operating mode switch in the NEUTRAL position. Place the boom switch in the OFF position.
Install the steering frame lock. Block the wheels. Install the swing lock pins. Stop the engine.

Tilt the cab into the UP position. Ensure that cab support (1) is installed. Remove the guards from the rear of the swing plate.

Hydraulic Hose Assembly for the Swing Brake
Disconnect the hydraulic hose assembly that is connected to the swing brake on the right swing motor.

There is spring tension on cover (3). Loosen bolts (2) evenly in order to release the spring tension. When the tension is released, remove the bolts.

Remove cover (3). Remove belleville spring (4) from the brake housing.

Apply compressed air to brake port (A). The air pressure will dislodge brake piston (5) .

Remove brake piston (5). Remove seal (6) from the brake housing. Remove bolts (7) from the brake housing. Remove the brake housing.

Remove brake disc pack (9) from shaft (8). Remove shims (10) from the shaft.
Inspect the inner discs and outer discs for wear. Any discs with excessive wear must be replaced.

Assemble the brake pack. Ensure that the inner discs alternate with the outer discs. An outer disc should be at each end of the brake pack. Do not include the shims in the assembly. Carefully clamp the assembly into a vise.
Measure the thickness of the brake pack. The thickness of the brake pack should be 70 to 77 mm (2.76 to 3.03 inch).
Add shims in order to obtain a thickness of 70 to 77 mm (2.76 to 3.03 inch).
Reassemble the swing motor. For more information on assembling the swing motor, refer to Disassembly and Assembly, RENR6145, "570B and 580B Wheel Harvester Machine Systems", "Swing Motor - Assemble".
Reinstall the guards on the back of the swing plate. Lower the cab.
