(D) Transmission Charging Section The power train oil pump is a four-section gear type pump. The pump is driven by input shaft (1). The input shaft is coupled to the hydraulic steering pump. The hydraulic steering pump is driven by the engine flywheel.During operation, oil enters each section of the pump through inlet passages in the pump body. The oil fills the space between the gear teeth. When the gears turn, oil is sent through outlet passages in the pump body.Section (A) is the transmission scavenge section. Section (A) draws oil from the transmission case. The oil passes through a screen before the oil leaves the transmission case. Output oil from Section (A) joins with output oil from Section (B). This oil is sent to the oil reservoir in the bevel gear case.Section (B) is the torque converter scavenge section. Section (B) draws oil from the torque converter housing. The oil passes through a screen before the oil leaves the torque converter housing. Output oil from Section (B) joins with output oil from Section (A). This oil is sent to the oil reservoir in the bevel gear case.Sections (C) and (D) draw oil from the oil reservoir in the bevel gear case. The oil passes through a screen before the oil leaves the bevel gear case. The screen catches large debris in the power train oil. The screen prevents debris in the power train oil from damaging the power train components.Section (C) is the torque converter charging section. Section (C) draws filtered oil from the bevel gear case. Output oil from Section (C) passes through the torque converter charge filter before the oil flows to the priority valve. The priority valve supplies oil to the torque converter and to the service brakes.Section (D) is the transmission charging section. Section (D) draws filtered oil from the bevel gear case. Output oil from Section (D) passes through the transmission charge filter before the oil flows to the transmission and to the service brakes.
